Get Stoked! Records: One H.E.L.L. of a Compilation: Pre-order now!

getstokedrecords:

Happy Holidays! We’re very excited to finally be able to announce this project in its entirety.

In 2007, Gordon Riker & Kelly Wallace both tragically passed away in bike accidents in Boston, MA. Shortly after, friends of their’s started a non-profit organization titled H.E.L.L. (Helping…

I’m extremely proud and honored to be a part of this benefit for H.E.L.L. (Helping Everyone Live Longer) Featured on the vinyl, cassette and digital release is an alternate recording I did of ‘84 Rookie Card which I wrote about the passing of my friend Gordon Riker whom this compilation is in memory of. It’s a great cause and a TON of great music (over 70 bands) so pre-order now. Stay + and bike safe out there.

First glimpse at the vinyl that just arrived today…music porn. More proper photos coming soon but I had to share because she’s god damn beautiful.

When I bought Thrice’s latest album I thought about Dustin’s 3 daughters under 5 years old. When I bought Rocky Votolato’s vinyl I thought about his son Kienan and his wife April. When I saw Matt Pond PA at a show I paid for and then bought the 7” record I thought about the medical bills he would incur from the broken leg he got on that tour. When I bought my younger brother’s band Vanna’s latest album on iTunes when I could have easily emailed him to send me the tracks, I thought about the 4 other guys in the band and the trailer and gear they had stolen this past year.

As a musician and first and foremost - a music fan - I’m more thoughtful about how I spend the little money I have on music these days. I’m no saint and I’m not claiming to be but I am proud to support the people and lives behind the music I love with my money because to me - it’s worth it. It directly fuels the fire to continue the music making that has become the soundtrack of my life. I’m a romantic, I’m old fashioned & I love music. Without music, my life would be a whole lot darker.

To those people who have brought wonderful music into my life in the past and present - I thank you and hope you continue to make the music you want to make and I will be there to enjoy it with you.

Cheers,
Brian Marquis

Press Release:

Snow Damage, singer/songwriter Brian Marquis’ (Therefore I Am) debut six- song EP, released via Harbinger Music Group, is a heartfelt culmination of resilience, rebirth and renewal. The EP title, Snow Damage, metaphorically describes what is left when all the winter snow is melted away and the ground beneath is exposed, waiting for the rebirth of spring.  Similarly, on Snow Damage, Marquis documents a point in his life where he persevered over personal challenges, got to the core of his being and experienced a renewed optimism and passion for his music.

The debut EP features a well-rounded songwriting approach, from the loud and raucous “They Used To Call It The Blues” to the soft and vulnerable “Body Work”.  Up and coming producer Brad Delava shared Marquis’ vision to go back to his roots and make a piece of music that was not over-produced, showcasing his raw vocal talent. “I went into the studio more prepared than ever; my attitude is, if I can’t sing it, I won’t.” says Marquis of his vocals on Snow Damage.

According to Alex DiVincenzo on absolutepunk.net, “Marquis has always been a skilled guitarist and provided pleasant backing vocals in Therefore I Am, but I was unaware of the true finesse of his voice prior to hearing his solo material.”  In addition to vocals and guitar, Marquis also played harmonica, lap steel, percussion and piano on the EP.

Guest appearances on Snow Damage include Erick Serna (ex- The Dear Hunter), slide guitar on “Ratt Street”, Shawn Marquis (Vanna), bass on “The Way You Walk Away” and Dan Bob Goterch (Actor|Observer) percussion on tracks 1,3,5.  The EP was mastered by Jeff Lipton (Bon Iver and City And Colour) and will be available on CD and limited edition colored vinyl here www.brianmarquis.com as well as iTunes, AmazonMP3 and all other digital retailers.
To celebrate the EP, both East and West Coast release shows are planned for December 28, 2011 at T.T. the Bear’s Place in Cambridge, MA and January 9, 2012 at the Silverlake Lounge in Los Angeles, CA.
